  • Look Inside

Five cases of Warthin's Tumor with bilateral involvement of the parotid glands were described.

The ages of the patients ranged from 53 to 76 years and all of them were male.

The tumor comprised 21.3% of all tumors in our 47 cases of the parotid gland tumors from 1991 to 1993. The incidence of Warthin's tumor had been increasing for the past 30 years.

Bilateral involvement, or multiple involvement in a single salivary gland is reported to be a character-istic feature of the tumor.

Bilateral or multiple involvement was observed in 5 cases among our 10 cases with Warthin's tumor in the parotid gland.

The incidence of the bilateral involvement of the tumor was higher than that of pleomorphic adenoma in our 47 cases of parotid tumor.

Most of the tumors occurred in the lower portion of the lateral lobe of the parotid gland. Few occur-red in the upper parotid region.

We believe Warthin's tumor occurred as the result of salivary gland inclusion in the intra- parotid lymph nodes during the embryological development.
