  • Look Inside

Two eyes developed delayed-onset bullous keratopathy following argon laser iridotomy. Treatment was performed for acute glaucoma in one eye and chronic closed angle glaucoma in another. Bullous keratopathy was detected 6 and 7 years each after treatment. Review of 55 eyes treated by argon laser iridotomy during the foregoing 54 months showed a greater reduction in the corneal endothelial cell density in 8 eyes with acute glaucoma than in 46 eyes with prodromal glaucoma (p < 0.05) . Both groups included eyes with high cell density and those with low cell density. In eyes with prodromal glaucoma, there was no difference in laser output or age between the two groups. Significant difference was present only period after laser treatment. It appeared that there is a persistent insult to the corneal endothelial cells after argon laser iridotomy.
