We measured the intraocular pressure (I013) in a consecutive series of 62 eyes before and after small-incision cataract surgery under instillation anesthesia. Eyes with glaucoma were excluded from the study. No case was given antiglaucomatous treatment. The TOP averaged 14.9 ± 2.2 mmHg before surgery. It averaged 18.2 ± 3.6, 17.9±3.4, 17.1 ±3.2, 15.0 ± 2.8, 13.7 ± 2.4, 13.1 ± 2.1 mmHg respectively at 3, 6, 10, 24 hours, 2 days and 3 days after surgery. No eye showed elevation of IOP over 30 mmHg. The rise of IOP during the immediate postoperative period was not correlated either with age, axial length, duration of ultrasound application, duration of surgery or method of incision.
