The relation of contact lens wear and eye dryness

　裸眼群293名とコンタクトレンズ（以下，CL）装用群1,066名に対して，乾燥感についてのアンケート調査を行った。裸眼群の35.8％とCL装用群の79.8％には日常生活において乾燥感があり，CL装用群のほうが裸眼群よりも約2倍高い率を示した（p＜0.0001）。またハードCL装用234名とソフトCL装用832名との間で乾燥感の率を比較すると，ハードCLにおける71.4％とソフトCLにおける82.2％とは有意差が認められた（p＝0.0011）。裸眼群とCL装用群ともに，VDT作業の頻度は乾燥感発現の頻度の要因となっていることも確認された（p＜0.001）。

We made survey by sending questionnaires to 1,066 contact lens wearers and 293 non-wearers as to the sensation of eye dryness. Eye dryness was present in 79.8% of wearers and in 35.6% of non-wearers. The difference was significant (p ＜ 0.0001). The incidence of eye dryness was 71.4% in 234 hard contact lens wearers and 82.8% in 832 soft contact wearers. The difference was significant (p =0.0011). Throughout the groups, working with visual display terminal (VDT) was a significant factor for sensation of eye dryness (p ＜ 0.001).
