We made survey by sending questionnaires to 1,066 contact lens wearers and 293 non-wearers as to the sensation of eye dryness. Eye dryness was present in 79.8% of wearers and in 35.6% of non-wearers. The difference was significant (p < 0.0001). The incidence of eye dryness was 71.4% in 234 hard contact lens wearers and 82.8% in 832 soft contact wearers. The difference was significant (p =0.0011). Throughout the groups, working with visual display terminal (VDT) was a significant factor for sensation of eye dryness (p < 0.001).
