Patients with myopia and unilateral aphakia, especially children or elderly subjects, cannot al-ways wear contact lenses because of handling difficulty or intolerance for lenses. This problemwas expected to be solved, if contact lenses can be continuously worn for a long time without damage to eye.

An animal experiment and a clinical study were carried out on continuous wearing of new hydrophilic contact lenses having about 70% water content.

The effect of continuous wearing of this hyd-rophilic contact lenses was investigated on 35 rabbits by using histochemical, transmission and scanning electron microscopies.
