We reviewed 5 eyes of 4 patients who underwent surgical removal of submacular choroidal neovasculariza-tion (CNV) as complication of angioid streaks. Their ages ranged from 55 to 70 years, average 61 years. After 14 to 28 months, average 19 months, after surgery, visual acuity improved in 4 eyes and remained unchanged in one eye. Final visual acuity of 20/200 or better was attained in 4 eyes. Another series of 8 eyes of 7 patients with CNV and angioid streaks which received no surgery were also evaluated. Only 3 of the 8 eyes (38%) had final visual acuity of 20/200 or better. Final submacular scar was smaller in eyes treated by surgery. The findings show the usefulness of surgical removal of CNV eyes with angioid streaks.
