We evaluated the postoperative astigmatism following cataract surgery in 94 eyes by Halladay and Jaffe methods. A 90-degree incision was used in 48 eyes and a 135-degree incision was used in 46 eyes. The surgically induced astigmatism was greater in the former than the latter group by either method. Flattening in the vertical meridian and steeping in the horizontal meridian was greater and more frequent in the former than the latter group by Halladay method. Evaluation by Holladay method showed lesser changes in the incision meridian in the latter than in the former group. Both groups showed similar changes in refraction along the horizontal meridian. Halladay method proved to be useful in evaluating the change of refraction along any meridian.
