  • Look Inside

We evaluated 66 Japanese patients with ocular sarcoidosis regarding human leukocyte antigen, HLA. The series comprised 30 males and 36 females. HLA tests in 138 healthy persons served as control. No definite trends were observed in HLA factors in general and in relation to systemic features. The frequency of HLA-DR14 in patients with periphlebitis was marginally increased and HLA-All in patients with anterior segment involvement only was significantly increased, suggesting that HLA may influence the site of intraocular inflammation. Males showed a significantly high incidence of HLA-DR2. Females showed high incidence of HLA-DR53, which was not significant. The findings suggested different patterns of HLA between males and females.
