  • Look Inside

We reviewed 127 patients of Behçet's disease in the uveitis clinic of Kyoto University Hospital from 1970 through 1992. The series comprised 82 males and 45 females. The number of patients showed a tendency to decrease during the 23 years. Eye manifestations of the disease were more frequent in males than females. There was a rising tendency for males to manifest panuveitis. As therapeutic modality, systemic cyclosporin has become more popular replacing systemic corticosteroid, cyclophosphamide or azathioprine. Systemic colchicine has been used consistently during the period of review. The visual outcome appeared to have improved in female patients. After 5 years of disease, 60% of males had the visual acuity of 0.1 or less.
