Abstract Purpose:To report statistical evaluation and comparison of superior and inferior visual field defect in retinitis pigmentosa using Humphrey field analyzer(HFA).

Cases and Method:This study was made on 12 eyes of 6 cases of retinitis pigmentosa who were evaluated by HFA(SITA 30-2). The findings were subjected to statistical analysis regarding age, laterality of the eye, and superior/inferior visual field.

Findings:The age was negatively correlated with mean deviation in 6 eyes of 3 cases. It was negatively correlated with total deviation(TD)in inferior visual hemisphere in 4 eyes of 3 cases, and in superior visual hemisphere in 6 eyes of 3 cases. Mean deviation was better in the right eye in one case, was positively correlated with age in one case, and negatively correlated in 2 cases. TD was poorer in the inferior hemisphere in 5 eyes of 3 cases. TD value in the inferior hemisphere decreased significantly with advance in age in 3 eyes of 2 cases.

Conclusion:Visual field defect in retinitis pigmentosa was variable regarding severity and laterality of the eye as well as in the superior and inferior hemisphere.
