5年以上長期経過観察が可能であった高齢者の視機能検査と知能検査の推移

Changes in intelligence and visual function in senile persons over five years or longer

要約　目的：老人ホームに住む高齢者の，5年以上の期間での知能と視機能の変化の報告。対象と方法：過去6年間に往診診察を行い，5年以上の経過が観察できた高齢者10例を対象とした。男性1例，女性9例で，観察終了時の年齢は，82～94歳，平均88歳であった。知能は知能指数（IQ），視機能は通常の眼科的検査とひらかな万国式近点検査表で評価した。結果：良好な側の片眼視力は，84歳時では0.8以上が5例，0.3～0.7が5例あった。85歳では0.8以上が7例，0.3～0.7が3例であり，88歳では0.8以上が2例，0.3～0.7が6例，0.1以下が2例であった。知能指数は，84歳では11歳以上が4例，2～12歳が5例，2歳以下が1例であり，85歳ではそれぞれ6，3，1例で，88歳ではそれぞれ1，6，3例であった。結論：平均年齢が85歳までは視力検査と知能検査によく応答したが，88歳に達すると反応が急減した。

Abstract.　Purpose：To report changes in intelligence and visual function in aged persons over 5 years or longer. Cases and Method：This study was made on 10 persons who were living in a home for the aged and who were followed up for 5 years or longer. The series comprised one male and 9 females. The age ranged from 82 to 94 years,average 88 years,at the end of follow-up. They were evaluated for intelligence quotient（IQ）and near visual acuity. Results：Both visual acuity and IQ tended to improve up to 85 years of age and to deteriorate after 88 years. Conclusion：The age of 88 years was the turning point for intelligence and visual acuity in the present series.
