Abstract Purpose: To compare the usefulness of fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)in chorioretinal diseases.

Cases and Method: This multi-institutional study was made on 109 eyes of 91 patients with fundus affections. The series comprised 51 males and 40 females. The age ranged from 38 to 90 years, average 69.8±10.3 years. Diabetic retinopathy was present in 43 eyes, branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)in 33 eyes, and exudative age-related macular degeneration(AMD)in 33 eyes. We compared the sensitivity, duration of examination, and side effects of FA and OCTA.

Results: Sensitivity was 100% by FA and 97.4% by OCTA regarding detection of microaneurysms in diabetic retinopathy, 63.7% and 100% respectively regarding capillary nonperfusion in diabetic retinopathy, 81.9% and 100% respectively regarding nonperfusion in BRVO, and 87.9% and 96.8% respectively regarding choroidal neovascularization in AMD. Duration of examination was significantly shorter for OCTA than FA(p<0.001). Side effects developed in 5 cases during FA and none during OCTA.

Conclusion: Sensitivity was almost the same for FA and OCTA. Duration of examination was significantly shorter for OCTA than FA. No complication developed during OCTA.
