Abstract Purpose: To report findings of the retina and choroid in uveal effusion syndrome(UES)as observed by spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT).

Cases: The first case was a 67-year-old female who presented with serous retinal detachment in the left macula. She had had choroidal and retinal detachment in both eyes 15 years before. Scleral fenestration surgery had been performed in multiple sessions in both eyes under the diagnosis of UES. The axial length was about 16 mm in either eye. The second case was a 39-year-old male who had developed UES 24 years before. Scleral fenestration had been performed in multiple sessions. Axial length was about 23 mm in either eye.

Findings and Clinical Course: The first case was interpreted as active stage of UES. Both eyes showed thickened choroid and numerous high-reflection dots in the inner and middle choroidal layers. The right eye showed absent outer retinal layer and outer retinal tabulation. The left eye showed increased choroidal reflection. The second case was interpreted as chronic stage of UES. The right eye showed intact ellipsoid zone, choroidal thickening, and multiple high reflective dots in the inner and middle choroidal layers. The left eye showed attenuation of retina and choroid, absence of outer retinal layers, and high reflection from the choroid.

Conclusion: SD-OCT showed impaired retinal outer layer and retinal pigment epithelium in chronic stage of UES. High reflective dots in the choroid appeared to show high-density vessels in the choroid.
