  • Look Inside

We performed repeated penetrating keratoplas-ty, after previous graft failure, in 26 eyes, 25 cases, during the foregoing 5-year period. The series in-cluded keratoconus 11 eyes, corneal leucoma 6 eyes, bullous keratopathy 6 eyes etc as the initial dis-eases necessitating prior keratoplasty.

Transparent cornea resulted after repeated ker-atoplasty in 17 eyes (65 %). In the remaining 9 eyes, the opaque cornea was due to immune reaction in 8eyes and to corneal endothelial damage in 1 eye. Corneal neovascularization, anterior synechia, sec-ondary glaucoma and additional surgery served as factors contribution to poor prognosis after repeated keratoplasty.

An immune suppressor, Mizoribine, was pre-scribed perorally for 23 eyes after repeated kerato-plasty. Transparent cornea resulted in 74 % of these eyes, whereas the transparency rate before introduction of Mizoribine before 1963 to 81 stood at 40 %.
