Diphosphoglycerate in erythrocytes in diabetic retinopathy

　内科的管理を受けている49名の糖尿病患者について，網膜症の病期ごとに2,3-DPG （2，3-diphosphoglycerate）を測定し，またそのうち27名にH_bA₁cも同時に測定した．網膜症のない群と非増殖性網膜症の群では，2,3-DPGはやや正常より増加していたが，特に前増殖性網膜症の群では高度に増加した．しかし，増殖性網膜症の群では逆に明瞭に減少した．またH_bA₁cは非増殖性網膜症の群だけに，2,3-DPGと有意の相関が認められた．

We quantitated the 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (DPG) levels in circulating erythrocytes in 49 diabetic patientswith various degrees of retinopathy. All the cases were under rigid control as regards the blood sugar level. Simultaneous determination of H_bA₁c values was also performed in 27 subjects.

In cases without retinopathy and with nonprolifer-ative retinopathy, 2,3-DPG level was slightly elevated than in controls. It was increased in cases with pre-proliferative retinopathy. In cases with proliferative retinopathy its level showed pronounced reduction. A significant correlation between H_bA₁c and 2,3-DPG was noted only in the group with nonproliferative retino-pathy.
