Diabetes and Visual Acuity

緒言

　本症において視力を扱うこと自体に問題が多く，結局は各症例について眼底との関係を考えねばならないのは自明の所である。ここでは，現時点でどのような面で研究されているかを概察して，2〜3の間題を扱つてみた。

　材料として1969年までの5カ年間，一定の症例を追跡した。

We obtained the following results from 5-year follow-up studies on the changes in visual acuity in diabetic patients with retinopathy.

I. In stage I-II, 74% of the cases maintained visual acuity of 0.4 or more and 10% showed a decrease down to 0.1 or under.

II. In stage III-V, 38% of the cases maintained visual acuity of 0.4 or more, 44% showed a decrease down to 0.1 or under and 80% of the cases with impaired vision (visual acuity of 0.3-0.2) showed a decrease down to 0.1 or under.
