We treated 64 eyes with primary and secondary angle-closure glaucoma by argon laser iridotomy (ALIT) using chipping method. Following ALIT, 44 eyes in the series resulted in well-controlled intraocular pressure without medication. Additional medication was needed to control the intraocularpressure in 18 eyes. Filtrating surgery was necessary in 2 eyes. Eyes with peripheral anterior synechia extending 25% or less of the circumference respond-ed favorably to ALIT. Also, eyes with secondary angle closure glaucoma as well as those with retini-tis pigmentosa showed favorable responses to ALIT.

No serious complications to ALIT were enco-untered in the present series. Incidence of endothe-lial or stromal opacity of the cornea during ALIT could be reduced by employing a lower power output at 600 mW in the present series.
