Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of panretinal photocoagulation(PRP)by pattern scan laser and conventional laser for diabetic retinopathy. Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 20 eyes of 10 patients. One eye received PRP as single shots,200μm in size,200 mW for 0.2 sec in 3 sessions. The fellow eye received PRP by pattern scan laser with 200μm in size and 400 mW for 0.02 sec in 2 sessions. Cases were followed up for 24 weeks. Effect of PRP was evaluated by fluorescein angiography. Results:Duration of treatment was significantly shorter in eyes treated by pattern scan laser than in fellow eyes. There was no difference between the two methods regarding visual acuity, foveal thickness, subjective pain,or effect of PRP. Conclusion:PRP by pattern scan laser resulted in shorter duration of treatment and in same effect as by conventional laser.
