  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Dibekacin (3',4'-dideoxykanamycin B or DKB) is a derivative of Kanamycin B and is scarcely inactivated by Kanamycin-resistant bacteria. As DKB ophthalmic solution is not commercially available, we prepared a 0.3% ophthalmic solu-tion for animal and clinical trials.

(1) Safety test: DKB eye drops and saline were instilled into 3 rabbits 9 times a day for 5 consecutive days in the right and left eye, respec-tively. No clinically detectable changes developed in all the eyes. Scanning electron microscopy of the cornea showed no significant changes or da-mages in the surface epithelial cells.
