Clinical evaluation of trifluorothymidine and adenine arabinoside against ulcerative herpetic keratitis

緒　言

　現在わが国においては，IDUは角膜ヘルペス患者に対して唯一の化学療法剤として使われている。しかしその効果には限界があり，新しい抗ヘルペス剤の導入が望まれている。著者らは今回，核酸合成阻害剤に属するtrifluorothymidine （F₃T）およびadenine arabinoside （ara-A）を使用する機会を得たので，角膜ヘルペスに対するこれら薬剤の臨床成績について報告する。

Topically applied 5-iodo-2′-deoxyuridine (IDU) is the drug of choice in the treatment of herpetic keratitis. Alternative antivirals are required, th-ough, for cases that are irresponsive or allergic to IDU. We carried out clinical evaluations of trifluorothymidine (F₃T) and adenine arabinoside (ara-A) in patients with ulcerative herpetic kera-titis.

Ten out of 11 eyes (90.9%) treated with 1% F₃T saline solution, applied 5 times daily, were cured. The healing time of ulcers averaged 7.7 days. Seventeen out of 18 eyes (94.4%) treated with 3% ara-A ointment, given 5 times daily, were cured.
