The infrared absorption angiography, with rapid intravenous injection of indocyanine green (ICG) dye and infrared color film (Kodak Ektachrome Infrared Aero Film Type 8443), was chosen to study the choroidal hemodyna-mics, because both pigment epithelium and xanthophyll are almost transparent in the near-infrared region. In this report, fundamental studies of this method: effect of filters, acute toxicity following rapid injection of ICG dye and the amount of ICG by which choroidal cir-culation can be photographed, were done in cynomolgus monkeys.
