Multiple sclerosis has been detected in 38 out of a total of 39,641 patients who visited the authors' clinic during the 8 year and 5 month period (July 1964-December 1972). The condition occurred during the 3 rd and 4th decade of life in 71% of the subjects. Females were frequent-ly affected than males at the ratio of 25 : 13. Disturbed vision was the most frequent chief complaint at 47%, while pathological visual field could be detected on clinical examination in 61% of the cases. The disturbance of vision was either acute (37%) or insidious (29%).
