  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

It is well known that trachema inclusions contain carbohydrate matrix (Rice, 1936). This substance is believed to be glycogen. Typical glycogen granules are demonstrated in inclu-sions by electron microscopy also (Mitsui, 1964). The glycogen is not demonstrated in inclusions of young stage and appear in ma-turing stage (Thygeson, 1938).

In egg-grown trachoma agent, Gordon (1965) reported that glycogen appeared 30 to 40 hours after inoculation, when examined by Lugol and PAS stainings. Mitsui (1964) was able to adapt trachoma strains in routinely used HeLa cells.
