　水晶体が紫外線によつて螢光を発することは古くから知られた事実である。この水晶体螢光は非常に安定であり，生体内においては勿論，これを眼球より摘出した後もその螢光性を失わない。

　前眼部をブラックライト（使用管球NEC-FL—6BL-B，紫外線出力0.4ワット，波長域320〜440mμ，最大エネルギー波長360mμ）で照らすと，常に瞳孔領に明るい水晶体螢光を認める。水晶体螢光は360〜370mμ．の励起光に於いて最も強いといわれる^1）。

1. It is a well-known fact that the cystall-ine lens of man and animals shows a marked fluorescence.

Methanol extracts of the crystalline lens of man and bovine also exhibited a brilliant bluefluorescence.

2. The fluorescence of the lens was quench-ed by means of various metalic compounds in vitro. The grades of the quenching of the fluorescence of fresh boine lenses after soaki-ng them in 0.1 mol/L various metalic compo-unds solutions for 48 hours were as follows ; CuSO₄ (⧺), AgNO₃ (⧺), CrCl₂ (⧺), HgC1₂ (⧺), CoCl₃ (+), NiSO₄ (+), CrSO₄ (+), ZnSO₄ (-),MnSO₄ (-),CdSO₄ (-), 0.01mol/ L FeCl₃ (⧻) and 0.01 mol/L FeNH₄ (SO₄)₂(⧻)
