  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

1. It is a well-known fact that the cystall-ine lens of man and animals shows a marked fluorescence.

Methanol extracts of the crystalline lens of man and bovine also exhibited a brilliant bluefluorescence.

2. The fluorescence of the lens was quench-ed by means of various metalic compounds in vitro. The grades of the quenching of the fluorescence of fresh boine lenses after soaki-ng them in 0.1 mol/L various metalic compo-unds solutions for 48 hours were as follows ; CuSO4 (⧺), AgNO3 (⧺), CrCl2 (⧺), HgC12 (⧺), CoCl3 (+), NiSO4 (+), CrSO4 (+), ZnSO4 (-),MnSO4 (-),CdSO4 (-), 0.01mol/ L FeCl3 (⧻) and 0.01 mol/L FeNH4 (SO4)2(⧻)
