Abstract. Purpose:To present a report on short-term hypotensive effect of brimodinine added to multiple medications for primary open-angle glaucoma(POAG). Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 53 eyes in 40 cases of POAG that failed to respond to multiple medications. The series comprised 31 male and 21 female eyes. The age averaged 67.9±12.7 years. Intraocular pressure(IOP)averaged 18.3±3.1 mmHg. All the cases had been receiving topical treatment with prostaglandins, beta-blocker and carboxyl anhydrase inhibitor. Additional instillation of 0.1% brimonidine was started twice daily. Cases were followed up for 6 months. Results:Averaged IOP decreased by 8.3%, 6.9% and 8.2% after 1, 3 and 6 months of treatment. IOP decreased by 20% or over in 25%, 32% and 23% of eyes respectively. Instillation of brimonidine was discontinued in 12 eyes due to insufficient hypotensive effect and in one eye due to dizziness. Conclusion:IOP decreased in 20% of eyes after instillation of brimonidine added to multiple mediations for POAG.
