Abstract. Background:Cataract surgery in eyes with iridoschisis may be difficult,as the detached anterior stroma of the iris can be aspirated by the irrigation/aspiration port. Use of iris retractor is recommended but may damage the iris and induce hemorrhage. Purpose:To report 3 cases who received uneventful surgery for cataract with iridoschisis by adjunct intraoperative use of Healon®V. Cases:The present series comprised 3 eyes of 3 cases with age-related cataract and iridoschisis. They were aged 73,86 and 93 years respectively. Healon®V was injected into the anterior chamber during phacoemulsion/aspiration. This manipulation allowed low vacuum setting and prevented accidental aspiration of detached iris fibrils. Intraoperative complication was absent throughout. Resection of the iris was not performed. Conclusion:Adjunct intraoperative use of Healon®V facilitated prevention of accidental aspiration of the iris during cataract surgery in eyes with iridoschisis.
