Abstract. Purpose:To report the short-term outcome of surgery on conjunctivochalasis using disposable cautery. Cases and Method:This study was made on 16 eyes of 14 patients who received surgery for conjunctivochalasis. The age averaged 73 years. After topical anesthesia and insertion of lid speculum, the patient was asked to look upwards. The exposed conjunctiva in the lower sector was grabbed by forceps for intraocular lens implantation and was cauterized along an arc. A disposable cautery,OPTEMPIIV(Alcon Japan),was used that reaches 450 to 650℃ while in use. The severity of conjunctivochalasis was graded into grade 0 to 3. Cases were followed up for 3 months after surgery. Results:All cases started to improve after one week of surgery and reached grade 0 one month later. The conjunctiva adhered to the sclera at the site of surgery. Conclusion:Surgery of conjunctivochalasis was easy, safe and effective with the use of disposable cautery in the present series.
