Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of diabetic papillopathy with macular edema that responded to subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide. Case:A 64-year-old male developed impaired vision in the left eye 3 weeks before. He had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 19 years before. Blood sugar level was well-controlled after oral medication since 3 years before. Findings:Visual acuity was 1.2 right and 0.4 left. The left eye showed edematous optic disc and macular edema. Peroral prednisolone was followed by improved visual acuity to 1.2 26 days later. Visual acuity decreased to 0.5 7 months later due to exacerbation of disc and macular edema. Subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide was followed by improved visual acuity to 1.2 2 weeks later. Conclusion:Subtenon injection of corticosteroid may be safe and effective for diabetic papillopathy.
