Abstract Purpose:To report the outcome of pulsed corticosteroid therapy followed by subtenon injection of triamcinolone for Voge-Koyanagi-Harada(VKH)disease.

Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 32 eyes of 16 patients who were treated for VKH disease in the past 41 months. The series comprised 8 males and 8 females. The age ranged from 27 to 64 years, average 46.1±10.5 years. All the cases were treated by intravenous infusion of 1,000 mg methylprednisolone for 3 days with subtenon injection of triamcinolone on the last day. No treatment with peroral corticosteroid was performed.

Results:Out of the 32 eyes, 26 eyes(81%)resolved without recurrence or protraction. Eighteen eyes needed additional subtenon injection of triamcinolone with or without pulsed corticosteroid therapy. These 18 eyes showed significantly increased thickness of the choroid within 3 months of initial treatment.

Conclusion:Pulsed corticosteroid therapy with subtenon injection of triamcinolone on the third day was followed by resolution of VKH disease in about 50% of cases. Almost all the cases resolved after additional treatment without recourse to peroral corticosteroid therapy.
