Abstract. Purpose:To evaluate cases of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy that improved after photodynamic therapy(PDT)and that recurred after long intervals. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 45 eyes of 44 patients of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy that improved after PDT and that could be followed up for one year or longer. The series comprised 33 male and 12 female eyes. The age ranged from 53 to 83 years, average 69 years. Results:Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy recurred in 18 out of 45 eyes(40%)later than 6 months after PDT, The interval ranged from 6 to 24 months, average 14 months. Recurrence occurred in the original site in 6 eyes, within the pathological vascular network in 5 eyes, and outside the pathological vascular network in 7 eyes. Final visual acuity was the same or better than before recurrence in 17 eyes(94%). Conclusion:Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy may recur later at a high incidence after initial regression by PDT.
