Purpose:To report the short-term outcome of photodynamic therapy(PDT)with triamcinolone acetonide for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. Cases and Method:This study comprised 25 eyes of 25 patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. The series comprised 18males and 7 females. The age ranged from 53 to 82 years, average 73 years. Triamcinolone acetonide was injected intravitreally at the dosis of 4mg 10 days after PDT. Visual acuity averaged 0.85 when expressed as logMAR. Results:Mean visual acuity improved by 0.18 3months after treatment. Polypoidal elements disappeared in 20 eyes(80%). Vascular networks persisted in 16 out of 18 eyes(89%). Six eyes received another session of PDT. By indocyanine green angiography, areas receiving PDT showed hypofluorescence during the early and middle phase, and normofluorescence towards the late phase. Conclusion:PDT with triamcinolone acetonide may be effective for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy when evaluated 3months after treatment.
