Abstract. Purpose:To report short-term outcome of photodynamic therapy with adjunct use of intravitreous triamcinolone for choroidal neovascularization. Objects and Methods:This study was made on 46 eyes of 46 patients. All had exudative type of age-related macular degeneration with subfoveal neovascularization. Their ages ranged from 53 to 86 years, average 74 years. Each eye received photodynamic therapy with verteporfin. Ten days later,4mg triamcinolone was injected into the vitreous. Visual acuity was evaluated as logMAR. Results:The visual acuity averaged 0.79 before treatment and 0.64 3 months later. It improved in 9 eyes(20%),remained unchanged in 35(76%),and deteriorated in 2(4%). Intraocular pressure(IOP)rose by 5mmHg or more in 15 eyes(33%). Photodynamic therapy was repeated in 15 eyes(33%). Conclusion:Adjunct use of intravireal triamcinolone is equally or more effective than photodynamic therapy alone. Rise of IOP needs due attention.
