Abstract. Purpose:To report the difference in autofluoresence of age-related macular degeneration(AMD) when recorded by fundus camera and scanning laser ophthalmoscope. Cases and Method:This study was made on 36 eyes of AMD. The series comprised 27 eyes of atrophic and 9 eyes of exudative AMD with choroidal neovascularization. Fundus autofluorescence was recorded by a fundus camera by Topcon and a scanning laser ophthalmoscope by Heidelberg. Results:In atrophic AMD, hyperfluorescence was recorded in 10 eyes both by fundus camera and scanning laser ophthalmoscope. In exudative AMD, 7 eyes showed ring-shaped hyperfluiorescence with indistinct margin by fundus camera. The margin became distinct after photodynamic therapy. Conclusion:Hyperfluorescence in atrophic AMD was clearly recorded by scanning laser ophthalmoscope. Hyperfluorescence in exudative AMD with choroidal neovascularization was clearly recorded by fundus camera.
