Abstract. Purpose:To evaluate ocular manifestations in persons infected by human immunodeficiency virus(HIV). Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 500 persons who were referred to the Department of Ophthalmology for HIV during 41 months through 2005. Results:The series comprised 455 males(91.0%)and 45 females(9.0%). The age ranged from 10 to 82 years, average 37.4 years. The number of CD4+ lymphocytes in the circulating blood was less than 200/μl in 48.3% of cases. Ocular lesions were present in 146 cases(29.2%)and in 237 eyes(region)(23.7%). Retinal microvasculopathy was the most frequent and was followed by cytomegalovirus retinitis and immune reconstitution syndrome. Conclusion:Ocular involvement is still frequent in the current age of highly active antiretroviral therapy(HAART).
