Abstract. Purpose:To report two cases who received lensectomy for glaucoma or cataract in nanophthalmic eyes. Cases:A 43-year-old male had nanophthalmos and closed-angle glaucoma in both eyes. Both eyes had received laser iridotomy and gonioplasty. His corrected visual acuity was 1.0 right and 1.2 left. Both eyes had axial length of 17mm. Both eyes showed extremely shallow anterior chamber. Pars plana lensectomy resulted in intraocular preessure(IOP)of 12mmHg and visual acuity of 1.2 in both eyes. Another was a 70-year-old female who had had glaucoma for 10 years. Her right eye had become phthisic. Visual acuity in the left eye was hand motion due to cataract. The left eye had axial length of 18mm, shallow anterior chamber, nuclear sclerosis and swelling of the lens. Decompression of vortex veins and sclerotomy followed by phacoemulsification-aspiration resulted in well-controlled IOP and good visual acuity. Conclusion:Lens removal may be effective for glaucoma or cataract in nanophthalmic eyes.
