Abstract. Purpose:To report the incidence of superior segmental optic hypoplasia in persons around twenty years of age. Objects and Method:This study was made on 280 eyes of 140 volunteers recruited from university students. Their age ranged from 19 to 25 years, average 20.6 years. Eyes were diagnosed with superior segmental optic hypoplasia when Goldmann perimetry showed inferior wedge-shaped field defect and when the optic disc showed thinning of rim with retinal nerve fiber layer defect. Results:Superior segmental optic hypoplasia was present in 7 eyes of 6 persons(4.3%). Conclusion:Superior segmental optic hypoplasia is present in 4.3% of healthy persons around 20 years of age. This fact ought to be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of normal-tension glaucoma.
