Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in intraocular pressure(IOP)after switching from plural to monotherapy in the topical treatment for glaucoma. Cases and Method:This study was made on 26 eyes of 13 cases of glaucoma who were receiving plural topical drugs. The series comprised primary open-angle glaucoma 4 eyes, primary closed-angle glaucoma 2 eyes, and normal-tension glaucoma 20 eyes. IOP was measured 3 months after switching to monotherapy with topical latanoprost. Results:IOP in 26 eyes averaged 13.5±5.0mmHg before and 12.8±3.6mmHg 3 months after switching. In 8 eyes that were receiving medication without latanprost, IOP averaged 18.6±5.4mmHg before and 16.4±3.8mmHg 3 months after switching. The difference was significant(p=0.01). In 18 eyes that were receiving medication including latanoprost, IOP averaged 11.2±2.6mmHg before and 11.2±2.1mmHg 3 months after switching. Conclusion:Ocular hypotensive effect may be maintained after switching from plural to latanoprost monotherapy for glaucoma.
