Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of topical unoprostone for retinitis pigmentosa. Cases and Method:Unoprostone was instilled once a day in 37 eyes of 20 patients of retinitis pigmentosa. The series comprised 10 males and 10 females. Their ages averaged 58.4±14.8 years. Another group of 23 patients with retinitis pigmentosa did not receive unoprostone and served as control. Their ages averaged 54.3±14.6 years. Visual function was evaluated by the area of 4/V by static Goldmann perimetry among others. Results:Area of visual field remained unchanged in the treated eyes and significantly decreased in control eyes. Intraocular pressure decreased in the treated eyes. There was no difference in visual acuity between both groups. Decrease in visual field was correlated neither with age nor complications. Conclusion:Instillation of unoprostone may prevent visual field loss in retinitis pigmentosa.
