Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in anterior chamber depth after cataract surgery with or without simultanoues vitreous surgery. Cases and Method:This study was made on 83 eyes of 79 cases who received cataract surgery during a 12-month period. The series comprised 54 male and 29 female eyes. The age ranged from 39 to 83 years, average 66 years. As cataract surgery, all the eyes received phacoemulsification-aspiration with intraocular lens insertion. Twenty eyes received cataract surgery alone. Forty and 23 eyes received, simultaneously, vitreous surgery with 20G or 23・25G cannula respectively. Anterior chamber depth was measured using a Pentacam(R). Results:After surgery, anterior chamber depth increased in all the 3 groups(p<0.001 each). It increased to 1.27±0.80mm of the preoperative value after cataract surgery alone, to 1.69±0.54mm and to 1.47±0.52mm respectively after additional vitreous surgery using 20G or 23-25G. There were no significant differences among the three groups. Conclusion:Depth of anterior chamber increases after cataract surgery with or without simultaneous vitreous surgery.
