Abstract. Purpose:To evaluate the antibacterial activity to fluoroquinolones. Object and Method:A total of 49 strains of bacteria were isolated from eye discharge. The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)of Gatifloxacin(GFLX), moxifloxacin(MFLX), tosufloxacin(TFLX)and levofloxacin(LVFX)against these bacteria was examined. Result:MIC90 of GFLX, MFLX, TFLX and LVFX against Gram-positive bacteria was 25.0, 12.5, 25.0 and 100.0μg/ml, respectively. MIC90 of GFLX, MFLX, TFLX and LVFX against Gram-negative bacteria was 3.13, 6.25, 3.13 and 3.13μg/ml, respectively. Conclusion:GFLX, MFLX and TFLX showed more potential antibacterial activity than LVFX. GFLX, MFLX and TFLX may be useful fluoroquinolones for ophthalmic diseases.
