Abstract. We reviewed 5 eyes of 5 cases of dislocation of intraocular lens(IOL)into the vitreous cavity. The ages ranged from 63 to 86 years, average 75 years. All the 5 eyes had the IOL fixated out of the bag. IOL had been implanted into the aphakic eye in 2 cases. Another 2 eyes had had intraoperative rupture of posterior capsule. The other 1 eye had perforating eye injury prior to cataract surgery. IOL dislocation was induced by blunt trauma 1 eye, large capsular rupture 2 eyes, and use of IOL not designed for secondary implantation 2 eyes. We advocate due attention to the following risk factors:advanced age, history of viteous surgery, and intraoperative rupture of lens capsule. Use of not specifically designed IOL is a new risk factor and is to be avoided.
