We observed 11 eyes in 11 cases of posterior dislocation of intraocular lens(IOL)in the past 11 years. The series comprised 9 males and 2 females. The dislocation occurred at the rate of one out of 1,250 cataract surgeries. Intraoperative rupture of the posterior capsule occurred in 7 eyes in the series. In these 7 eyes,IOL was extracapsularly fixated. IOL became dislocated on day 2 of surgery in 2 eyes and later in 5 eyes. It appeared that rupture of posterior capsular or slowly progressive damage to the zonules induced dislocation of IOL. There was no intraocular complication in the other 4 eyes. In 3 out of the 4 eyes, the dislocated IOL was still encapsulated, suggesting a causative relation to capsular contraction syndrome. The other one eye had received secondary IOL insertion and posterior capsulotomy by Nd:YAG laser.
