Abstract. Eight healthy volunteers received a single latanoprost instillation in one eye at 9 o'clock in the evening. We measured the intraocular pressure(IOP),ocular perfusion pressure, and blood flow in the optic nervehead and the macula 1,3 and 6 hours after instillation. The fellow eyes served as control. The ocular blood flow was measured using laser speckle flowgraphy. The square blur rate(SBR)served as index of blood flow velocity. The IOP decreased by 26% 6 hours after instillation. This decrease was beyond the diurnal IOP fluctuation but did not affect the ocular perfusion pressure. There was no change in blood flow in the optic nervehead or the macula. The findings show that topical latanoprost induced hypotensive effect without affecting the blood flow in the optic nervehead.
