An apparatus was constructed to generate glistening particles in the acrylic intraocular lens(IOL). A 20-diopter intraocular lens(MA60BM,Alcon)was immersed in distilled water at 37 degrees for one hour. Immediately thereafter,it was immersed in distilled water at 25 degrees for 3 hours. This procedure was repeated three times. Glistening particles showed up at the same location after each procedure. After more repetitions,glistening particles appeared earlier and increased in number. The present method allows a detailed observation of glistening particles. It also promises to be of value in elucidating the causes of glistening particles and in comparing various brands of intraocular lens.
