  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The use of a brain perfusion method makes itpossible to study the direct of various agents on the function and metabolism of the brain, under a condition in which no influence due to other organs is encountered.

The effect of cytidine diphosphate (CDP) choline on the cerebral function and on the pattern of in-tracerebral metabolism of [U-14C] glucose added to the blood for perfusion was investigated by con-tinuous administration of CDP-choline added at a concentration of 0.5 mg/ml to the blood for per-fusion prepared beforehand.

The rate of uptake of blood glucose carbon by the substances involved in the intracerebral glucose metabolism is relative to the functioning state of the brain. CDP-choline increased the uptake of blood blucose carbon by the amino acids related to the cerebral citric acid cycle in contrast with cerebral function.
