  • Look Inside

CDP choline (cytidine diphosphate choline) is effective on Parkinsonism without serious side effects, esspecially in its bradykinesia and rigidity, resembling the effect of L-DOPA, or Amantadine.

To make clarify the mechanism of the action of CDP choline, next experiment was carried out. Fourty nine cats were used ; to one of the paired cats, whose dopamine in the left caudate had been reduced by destruction of left substantia nigra, was administered 200mg of CDP choline every day for 2-5 weeks ; the other, saline also. The result of experiment shows that CDP choline increses the reduced dopamine (P<0.01). see Fig. 4.

The mechanism of action of CDP choline on Parkinsonisms is posturated that it augments the production of dopamine in substantia nigra and/or improves the axonal flow of dopamine from sub-stantia nigra into striatum, by the way of repairing the phospholipid metabolism in impaired neurons or axons.
