  • Look Inside

We had 8 patients having the central ro-landic "arceau" rhythm or wicket rhythm out of 209 patients who had EEG examination under 10-20 electrode system.

These rhythms showed 10.5-13.0 cps in the cases tested, and the arceau rhythm was faster than the occipital alpha-Wave in each case. The frequency of this rhythm was not stable during a recording, but it was faster than the alpha-wave even in its slowest fre-quency.

We examined the relation between the rhythm and the muscle movement. Bilateral suppression of the rhythm was observed with knee jerk elicited by the pattelar ten-dontap. Delay of the suppression (approxi-mately 200m sec) was seen on the ipsilateral central rolandic region compared with con-tralateral homologous area on volutional mus-cular contraction of an extremity.

As far as diseases conserned, which may be related to the arceau rhythm, 6 cases out of 8 were arachnoiditis cerebralis. One case had a lateralized arceau rhythm and the lat-erality was the same to foregoing trauma.
