  • Look Inside

Agenesis of the corpus callosum is rare di-sease and has been recogniged since Reil's first report (1812). Since then, 130 anatomi-cally proved cases have been recorded. Fifty-seven are reported to have been diagnosed by pneumoencephalography without anatomic proof. Of these 187 cases, only 23, all diag-nosed at autopsy, are asymptomatic.

There is no characteristic clinical syndrome to suggest the diagnosis and it is possible to diagnose agenesis of the corpus callosum during life only by means of pneumoence-phalography.

The authors reported here agenesis of the corpus callosum of the three cases in child-ren and in a adult with examples of the pne-umoencephalographic appearance and on a re-view of the literature discussed its anatomy, etiology, symptomatology and pneumoence-phalographie findings.
