  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The megimide activation has been studied in 93 patients with neuro-psychiatric disorder. The drug (5% solution of β-β-methyl-ethyl-glutarimide) was injected intravenously at a rate of 20mg per minute. Of 41 suspicious cases of epilepsy or kindred disorders, 28 have presented seizure discharges and six have showed non-paroxysmal abnormalities. Among 31 schizophrenics who received ex-cessively frequent ECT or surgical treatment but have never had any spontaneous convul-sion, various types of abnormal activities have been provoked in eleven cases by the activating procedure. It must be noted eleven cases of remaining 21 head injured with only mild neuro-vegetative disorders have revealed abnormal incidence which suggests latent cerebral dysfunction and unfavorable prognosis. Some patients have reported nausea, palpitation and a sensation of dizziness, but in general side effects were minimal and disappeared so rapidly that recording had never been disturbed.

In conclusion, megimide alone has been quite satisfactory as an activating agent.
