Platelet activating factor (PAF) has been known as one of the mediators of anaphylaxis and inflama-tion. The chemical structure was recently identified as 1-o-alky1-2-acetyl-sn-glycery1-3-phosphoryl choline (AGEPC), but its pharmocologic effects on the respiratory system have been little investigated. We have examined the action of AGEPC on airway and pulmonary vascular dynamics in guineapigs, and explored the possibility that AGEPC might promote the synthesis of thromboxane A2 (TXA2)

The experiments were performed on 17 anesthe-tized, mechanically ventilated guineapigs.
